Best Christmas Picture Books to Read With Your Kids
This parenting hack introduced us to a great new Christmas tradition:
After learning about this hack last year, I grabbed a bunch of Christmas picture books from the library to stick under the Christmas tree, inside of a basket.
This year, I made it a bit easier on myself, & we have simply stuck the ones we have around the house under the tree. We may go & get our other favorites from the library to stick under the tree as the month continues… But who knows if that will really happen or not? 😉
Here are a few I have in this video. & our other favorites. 🙂
“Little Blue Truck’s Christmas”is a winner in our house. What kid doesn’t love a glow up twinkly Christmas tree at the end of a book!?
“The Christmas Promise” is such a wonderful way to explain that Jesus is King. It gives examples of the type of King He is.. that is is a redeemer.. etc. Even though it has higher level language, it still kept my 2 year old engaged!
“The Gospel” is a part of a series that I purchased from RisenMotherhood.com. It explains the gospel in an interesting & engaging way. It is a great book to read all year round, just thought it was a great one to grab and stick under the tree along with our other books, since it mentions Jesus as a baby!
“Sounding Joy” is a new rhyming book that was released in 2022. My son loved reading it all year long since we purchased it last year. We play i-Spy together on the hide-and-seek page every time we read it together. 🙂
“The Jesus Storybook Bible” is a wonderful book to have in your house. I used to use it in the classroom to teach scripture to my 4th grade class, but it also makes the stories interesting and easy to understand for younger ages too. I love the way the Christmas story is told in this version!
“God Gave Us Christmas” explains the true meaning of Christmas so well! All of the “God Gave us..” Series are great if you haven’t checked these books out yet!
“One Wild Christmas” is a staple in our house! We got it from the library last year to stick under our tree, then my mom (their gammie) ended up buying it because she loved reading it to them so much! It’s a fun one!
“Jesus Came for Me” Is a great theological book, teaching children why He came – to save us from sin.
“Jesus’ Christmas Party” is a unique depiction of the Christmas story. It’s a silly version from the inn keeper’s perspective who just wants to sleep! A fun addition to your collection!
“Christmas is Coming!” is a great book to keep under your tree and read throughout the month – it gives a correct retelling of the story from the Bible. It’s an awesome book to keep the anticipation of Jesus’s birth at the forefront of the Christmas season!
You can choose to read one of these books snuggled up with your kids on the couch, laying under the glowing Christmas tree each night, or just let them explore them as they wish.
Hope it’s a new special tradition for your family too, like it has become for us! 🙂
